The 7th Annual Carolina Games Summit was held Saturday February 4, 2012 at Wayne Community College. The spectacular event featured speakers and exhibitors from several game development companies, along with representatives from local colleges and schools who feature game design programs. This all day event also held 18 tournaments across all gaming platforms and genres. The top three tournament winners were recognized in front of a packed auditorium of their fellow gamers at the end of the day during the student produced awards ceremony. During the ceremony, custom made videos showed off each game before the winners were escorted to the stage to receive their award. All of the custom videos during the ceremony were produced by Simulation and Game Development students at Wayne Community College. And all first place winners received a custom made plaque imprinted with a full color image unique to each tournament and are created by former WCC Networking student Josh Berns.

In addition all top three winners receive medals along with a prize pack built by CGS and supplied by the event sponsors.

"We do not advertise prizes ahead of the event, just the custom made plaques and medals." Michael Everett an Instructor at Wayne Community College and the events Creative Director states, "We want our attendees to come for fun and recognition not for the prizes, that way when they receive a prize it is like a bonus."

The event had 82 winners across 18 tournaments who strive to be the best at their chosen game and make the months of practice worth it. The winners displayed below are some of the most hard core gamers who practice their skills on a regular basis and dedicate themselves to being the best. A majority of them may be practicing to become professional gamers but sadly few will achieve the status of Pro Gamer. Many gamers play competitively for years and never reach it, but in some cases players can bring in six figure salaries by joining leagues such as Major League Gaming where Electronic Sports Gamers sign $250,000 yearly contracts to play games!

The Carolina Games Summit isn't just about video games either! It also hosts several card gaming tournaments and a cos-play contest is judged by Penny Dreadful Productions, an Atlanta based conceptual design and physical production company. Their masterful work has been seen in major motion pictures such as The Book of Eli and The Walking Dead. The Carolina Games Summit congratulates this years winners, and looks forward to seeing them all back next year with improved skills and a winner take all attitude! The 8th Annual Carolina Games Summit is slated for February 2nd, 2013 and each year the Carolina Games Summit strives to better itself and include more features, attendees, and partners. Penny Dreadful Productions (PDP) an Atlanta based production company will join Britt Griffith of SyFy’s Ghost Hunters to answers questions and give tips on making it in film/TV during their joint keynote panel discussion.  Griffith works all over the world in front of the camera investigating the paranormal. When not filming with Ghost Hunters, Griffith works at his own company, Sun Set Production Studios.   PDP provides conceptual design, prosthetics, and props for major motion pictures such as the Book of Eli as well as cast members for popular shows like AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Michael Resnick, the co-founder and lead developer of Hazardous Software, will cover the use of time travel and time manipulation as a unique gameplay mechanism.  Hazardous Software recently released Achron a real-time strategy game where players can time travel simultaneously and independently.  Resnick will use this experience to discuss ways of approaching time travel from a gameplay perspective.

Hands-on training sessions by industry professionals from companies like Redstorm Entertainment, Autodesk, and college educators will also be returning. Building on the continued success of past years over 17 tournaments will be featured.  Rounding out the event, the exhibition hall, will be packed with industry and educational representatives.

The Carolina Games Summit will be held 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday, February 4th, 2012 at Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, NC. Tickets are available to the public for $10 each and may be purchased online or at the door. The event includes video game tournaments, industry speakers, educational sessions, and exhibition booths. An exciting mix of fun, academic opportunities and career exploration has been created for students, aspiring game developers, educators and professionals alike.

Since its inception in 2006, the Carolina Games Summit has been the premiere gathering spot for the North Carolina video game community. Over 1,200 people attend each year. The 2011 Summit featured 15 speakers and 9 sessions. The 2012 Carolina Games Summit takes place February 4th at Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, NC.

In preparation for the 2012 Summit, we are inviting you to submit a proposal for conducting a session. Presenting a session at the Carolina Games Summit provides you with rewarding exposure both professionally and personally. This is your opportunity to share your ideas and practices with some of the brightest lights in future game design and some of the biggest fans of video games.

We look forward to your participation at the 2012 Carolina Games Summit!

About Carolina Games Summit
Carolina Games Summit will be held Saturday February 5th 2011 10AM – 9PM at Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, NC. This hybrid event will once again deliver industry speakers, video game tournaments, concerts, exhibition booths, cos-play, educational sessions, and trading card games. Compete against gamers from all over the country in a variety of popular tournaments. Enjoy all your favorite platforms including arcade, computer, and console games with both tournament and free play options available. Additional information can be found on the official web site: www.CarolinaGamesSummit.com

Goldsboro, NC, January 27, 2011 – Carolina Games Summit announced Wednesday Time Warner Cable’s Connect a Million Minds (CAMM) will be the title sponsor of the sixth annual Carolina Games Summit. The summit will be held at Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, NC on Feb. 5 from 10 am to 9 pm. More than 1,000 local and national attendees are expected to participate in this all day event focused on the simulation and game design industry.

Connect a Million Minds is Time Warner Cable’s five-year, $100 million philanthropic initiative designed to engage and inspire young people to become the problem solvers of tomorrow by pursuing education and career paths in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

“CAMM seeks opportunities outside of the classroom to expose students to the vast options there are to apply STEM to real-life learning activities and careers,” said Keith Poston, Director of Communications for Time Warner Cable’s Raleigh/Coastal/Fayetteville area. ““The Carolina Games Summit is a perfect  fit because leading game developers are offering hands-on clinics on the technology behind the gaming industry making it accessible to students.” “Event goers can attend educational sessions from industry speakers, interact with exhibitors demonstrating their latest products and software, and test their gaming skills in a variety of competitive video game tournaments, said Tracy Schmeltzer the Carolina Games Summit's Producer."Visitors can experience presentations from industry visionaries, plan for a future in the game development field, and enjoy fiercely competitive tournaments all at one event."

Events like the Carolina Games Summit can be a fun way to underscore the importance of STEM related education and career pathways. According to the NC STEM Community Collaborative, only one out of three eighth graders is proficient in math and only one out of five eighth graders is proficient in science.  Yet, 80 percent of jobs in the next decade will require STEM skills.

The Carolina Games Summit brings nationally-known gaming luminaries from game developers such as Icarus Studios, Virtual Heroes, and RedStorm Entertainment along with representatives from local colleges and schools who feature simulation and game development programs. These tangible examples of gaming professionals and education options enable students to learn how to pursue careers in the gaming industry.

In addition, current and past students will be able to demonstrate their game projects in the Student Showcase room.

In anticipation of the 6th Annual Carolina Games Summit on Feb 5th 2011, FraggedNation.com, the exclusive online tournament provider, hosted a series of online tournaments.  The events took place in the months before the actual games summit and included prizes from VIBRAS FIVE.ONE®, Hampton Inn of Goldsboro, and the Carolina Games Summit.

The winners of the pre-qualifying tournament received complimentary tickets to the Carolina Games Summit, one night in the official hotel, Hampton Inn, and a VIBRAS FIVE.ONE® headset, the official headset of the Carolina Games Summit.  Individual tournament winners also received priority registration for their tournament at the summit on Feb 5th.  Top admins from FraggedNation will be on hand the day of the summit to meet their fellow gamers and take part in the day's events.

The winners of the pre-qualifier tournaments have been announced. They are as follows.

- The winning player of the StarCraft 2 1v1 pre-qualifier Tournament is Pin.

- The winning team of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4v4 pre-qualifier Tournament is Beby And The Beast.

Congratulations to all winners. All prizes will be handed to the winners at the main Carolina Games Summit in North Carolina, on February 5th, 2011.
